Insights, guides and updates on tax, cloud accounting and running a healthy business.
Most business owners know they're working hard. Many know they're busy. Far fewer know whether the numbers behind their business are actually telling the same story. That's where financial awareness comes in. Financial awareness isn't about being an accountant or understanding every line of a profit and loss report. It's about knowing the handful of numbers that tell you whether your business is genuinely moving forward or quietly drifting off course.
More sales won't fix a shaky foundation — they'll expose it. Here's how to tell whether your business is genuinely ready to scale, or heading for growing pains.
If the business only works when you're in the room, you don't own a business — you own a demanding job. Here are five warning signs, and what to do about them.
CASS (Cloud Accounting Support Services) has been selected as a recommended partner for InTouch, the award-winning multi-practice case management software built for growing law firms.
Profit on paper doesn't always mean a healthy business. Here are the four areas that really determine your financial strength — and how to check each one.
Launching 1 September 2026, The Three Pillars of Smart Finance brings together years of real-world experience helping business owners understand their numbers, make better decisions and build stronger businesses.
If you’ve visited the CASS website recently, you may have noticed things look a little different. We’ve launched our new website, and while we’re really pleased with how it looks, this project was never simply about giving the old site a facelift. The bigger reason for changing it was that CASS has changed. We’ve grown as a business, our team has grown, the services we provide have developed and the way we support our clients has evolved considerably. The old website told people what we did, but it didn’t really tell them enough about why we do it, how we work or the difference we want to make to the businesses we support.
At Cloud Accounting Support Services, we believe that being a good business means being a good neighbour. That is why, alongside supporting our clients to run their finances with clarity and confidence, we also look for opportunities to invest in the communities around us.
One of the reasons some business owners avoid forecasting is because they assume it's little more than educated guessing. It shouldn't be. A good forecast starts with facts. It starts with what your business has already proven it can achieve.
There's been a lot of talk recently about AI replacing accountants. Personally, I don't see it that way. In fact, I think AI is one of the biggest opportunities our profession has seen. Used properly, it can analyse information in seconds that would previously have taken someone hours. It can identify trends, highlight anomalies and challenge our thinking in ways we've never had before. That's exciting. But better information doesn't automatically lead to better decisions.
“We’ve got Xero … but I’m not really sure we’re getting much from it.” And honestly, I get it. For many businesses, accounting software slowly becomes nothing more than a digital filing cabinet. Receipts get uploaded. Invoices get raised. VAT returns get submitted. But very little of the information inside the system is actually being used to help make better business decisions.
